In need of grant money for school

sngglebune started this conversation

I am seeking out scholarships and aid to fund my college education.  I don't want to take out loans.  I have 2 years of college left and I will soon have 2 kids to put through college too.

I am seeking out scholarships and aid in any form to fund my college education. I am a single parent of two children who live's in California and can not afford to ask for loans. I plan to get my L.V.N and later go back to school to finish my R.N.

in response to katydid...   Have you checked with the financial aid offices of the schools that they want to attend?  They would be the best sources of information about scholarships, grant programs and the like....!

I get this kind of question a lot and my answer is still the same. Of all the sites that you have found they all ask you for money? That has not been my experience. The legitimate sites "ask for money" because they are doing or have already done the work to find the grant information. If you want to try and find this information on your own then one of the first things that you should do is to check with your scholl's financial aid office. They should know of some funding programs that you might be eligible for. Does anybody here watch Judge Mathis? I remember quite well an episode where he told one young person who was having trouble with financing his school expenses to get some grants and some student loans! Now if he can recommend that then that means that they are out there. You can also do the work yourself and find thse kinds of grant programs. There are many grant/scholarship/fellowship programs out there for students in just about every area of study. There are even scholarship programs for students who have suffered the loss of a parent, students who are twins and even programs that provide money if you write a certain kind of essay. So you have more resources out there than you will ever need. Not all of the sites ask for money but you do have to do the work yourself if you want to find the information about grants.

Learn How to Get Scholarships

What you want are scholarships. You can get as many scholarships as you need. Are you aware that there are two kinds of scholarships? They are Needs based and Merit based. If you don’t qualify for the Needs based scholarships, you can probably find a Merit based scholarship if you look hard enough. Don't let the Merit part scare you. Most of the Merit based scholarships just want you to write an essay to qualify. These are the ones given by fraternal organizations, veterans organizations and the like. I have even seen them given by retail Business’s. Look first in your local area and then at the State and Federal level. Let everyone you meet know that you are looking for a scholarship, you never know what will turn up. A friend of mine got a $2000 scholarship for his daughter from a foundation that was set up by a person in their will. He found out about it from a friend of his friend. All his daughter had to do was write an essay about why she wanted to go to school. So keep looking, Don't give up. You might want to check out the website www.yourgrant.com/scholarships for more information and a list of scholarships available. Keep at it and you will succeed! Honest Grantt
